Chinese Numerology
Chinese numbers hold special meaning. Chinese numerology is regarded by many Chinese people as either bringing good fortune or awful demise. Certain numbers are lucky, and others are unlucky, so a lot of thought and energy goes into getting the right numbers and number combinations.
Certain numbers sound like words that have good meaning, and others sound like words with negative meaning. A lot of people think the number meanings are superstitious and don't concern themselves with it, while others go to great lengths to get the perfect numbers.
People have been known to pay thousands of dollars to get telephone numbers with as many 8's as possible, since eight is the luckiest number. Some other superstitious uses of numbers include street addresses, residence floor in high-rise buildings, driver's license numbers, vehicle license plate numbers, bank and credit card numbers, etc.
